We liked the location at the beach ( + we had booked ocean view - adds to price of course ), the food at the restaurant was good, staff helpful ( for example called the ferry a day ahead to let them know we need the ride ), room spacious enough, bathroom ok, hot water and clean tiles, that's all we expect. AC worked very well. We got 2 bottles of water every day and you there's a drink water refill at the restaurant. The jetty allows to take a water taxi to other places and at a booth right next to the restaurant you can rent snorkeling gear or book different tours. After our initial impression that we're pretty much "trapped" at the resort and the only way to get around is water taxi we found that you can very well walk to Turtle Beach, to the Perenthian island resort or even go on the jungle track to Flora beach on the other side of the island, just have to "find" the paths.

Nice view from the restaurant, nice staffs, had fun feeding squirrels ... enjoyed snorkeling trip especially at the sharks point ... luckily no rain during our snorkeling trip..

The Barat is a charming hotel located in Besar. The restaurant offers a wide range of meals (from breakfast to dinner), even if a bit expensive in comparison with the Malaysian prices. The bedroom is comfortable, well-equipped (air cond + fan) and has many storages, which is highly appreciated. All is easy once there (rentals, laundry, etc.). The staff (many many people!) is friendly..

It was very close to the beach. Food was good from the restaurant although a little expensive - but that is to be expected. The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable. Overall it was a good vacation. Thanks Barat !

The newer set of rooms are nice and big. Very convenient, with lots of open cupboard space, to hang beach stuff to dry. You can’t really swim in front of the hotel, but walking distance there is a nice beach.

Nice and shaded. Facilities on site as well as close to other options. Great snorkelling nearby. Room was clean and comfortable apart from smell in bathroom. Nice to be able to enjoy a cold beer at the restaurant by the water in the evenings.

There is a small room. You have a bed, an air conditioner, a fan, a hairdryer, and a toilet with a shower. It’s a little bit dark in the room, because your window is covered and closed. It’s really clean. Staff clean everyday and give you bottles of water. You have towels and body&hair shower. There is the tastiest food in this resort. There is a diving centre, snorkelling centre near your house. And also has a boat taxi.

Very friendly staff, the sea facing chalets were perfect for family group and 2 units were good to fit our party of 7 people. The restaurant on the property catered to all the meals easily and the dinner BBQ was definitely a family favorite. Also very easy to organise activities such as diving and snorkelling, water taxis etc from the property.

Because of the rating, we didn't expect too much, but we had a great stay! Don't keep your standards too high and you'll have a great time here. The beds are clean, the food is great and the showers are warm. Of course, it's relatively expensive (and a bit out dated) but that's the island. Our shower had a leakage and they fixed it directly, good service! It's at the beach and a great spot for snorkeling, however not very suitable for swimming with kids. A five minute walk will give you a sandy beach. Also many restaurants are near the Barat. I would definitely recommend this place, as long as you don't expect a superdeluxe resort.
